When Alex Dawson – my biggest idol in underwater photography – reached out to me in June, I couldn’t believe it. His wide-angle wreck and cave shots have inspired me for years, and now he nominated me for something truly special: Gallipoli Wreck Fest 2025.
This is no ordinary contest. Nine of the world’s best underwater photographers will face the challenge of documenting WWI wrecks lying at 85 meters depth. Such conditions demand not only artistic vision, but also top-level technical diving skills and equipment: full trimix training, rebreather, scooter diving – and gear tough enough to handle the pressure.
For the past 90 days I’ve been preparing intensively:
🔹 Switched my rebreather setup to backmount.
🔹 Trained down to 120 m in Attersee.
🔹 Invested in a scooter with a custom camera rig.
🔹 Upgraded to a brand-new Santi Elite+ drysuit – because when it comes to safety and reliability, I trust Santi completely. My old suit, after hundreds of dives without a single failure, now serves as backup.
With just days left before the event, I feel ready. This journey is about more than competition – it’s about pushing boundaries, learning, and sharing the beauty of the deep. The strongest doesn’t necessarily win here; it’s the story told through the lens that matters.
Keep your fingers crossed 🤞 – soon I’ll share more about my experience in Perfect Diver Magazine.
Santi is proud to support projects where passion, skills, and innovation come together to extend the limits of underwater exploration and photography.
